100 Level Courses
100 Level Courses are basic to advanced general photography/digital imaging, basic computer skills, and camera classes. These courses are set-up to take a complete novice and transform them into a competent photographer. 
 
 
First time digital camera owners learn what it takes to become comfortable exploring their new cameras in this class. We discuss basic camera functions, equipment care, shooting tips, and printing options. “Camera Essentials” is designed for people who are brand new to the digital photography world.

Learn what makes a great picture POP! In Digital Photography I, we will start from ground zero and cover basic camera functions, composition, the principles of light, and archiving. We will also cover basic photographic tools such as tripods, filters, flashes etc.  This class is designed for those new to the photography world or those wanting to improve their photography without getting too technical. Owning a digital camera prior to taking this course and having basic computer skills are highly recommended.

Get out of the Auto modes and take the next step in gaining the foundational skills to become a great photographer! This class will cover the principles of light and exposure including shutter speed, aperture, ISO, histograms, etc. We will also discuss tips and tricks on how to handle common subjects such as portrait, nature, and sports photography. This class is designed for those wanting to gain a better understanding of their equipment and what it takes to be a photographer.

Prerequisites: Digital Basics and Digital Photography I and/or a fundamental knowledge of computer skills such as transferring images, renaming files, uploading/downloading, emailing files, as well as photography knowledge such as basic camera operation, composition, and lighting concepts.
 
 
Refining your skills as a photographer takes practice. This hands-on course will take what you’ve learned in the first four 100 level Bedford School of Imaging classes and put it to use! We will tackle everyday obstacles for the photographer in relation to different types of subject matter and shooting situations. You will have the opportunity to go into the field with professional guidance to take photographs, watch demonstrations, and followed up by a portfolio review. A strong knowledge of the fundamentals of photography is a prerequisite.

Do the words pixel, resolution, and formatting confuse or frustrate you? Do you have trouble getting photos on and off your devices? Does emailing photos give you a headache? If you answer “yes!” to any of these questions, then Digital Basics will ease your worries. This course will present the basic camera, computer, and internet skills you need to navigate your way through the digital photography world.

200 Level Courses
200 Level Courses are subject specific or skill development workshops. These courses are for students who already have a base knowledge of photography, so it is strongly encouraged to have already taken the 100 level courses or have a solid understanding of exposure and manual settings of the camera.

Prerequisites for 200 level coursers are 102. Digital Photo II or a basic understanding of the elements of exposure.  Being comfortable with changing ISO, Aperture, and Shutter speed on your camera will allow to follow along more easily in these workshops.

 
Beautiful light is a key ingredient to great portraits. First, you’ll Learn how to see and understand the characteristics of light. Then we’ll discuss ways to position and pose your subject in relation to the light for stunning images as well as use light modifiers for enhancement. Both indoor and outdoor lighting will be discussed, demonstrated, and practiced hand-on!

Flash photography can be intimidating at first and is sometimes avoided because of the initial obstacles. We’ll show you basic camera and flash settings to make your indoor and outdoor portraits. The workshop will discuss the basic principles of light and show the way to stunning portraiture lighting with simple equipment such as small battery powered strobes and lightweight accessories.

Software and Post-Processing Students are encouraged to bring a laptop w/ software pre-loaded, however this is up to the instructor in being a requirement.  
 
Adobe Lightroom is a very efficient and broad image processing app. This workshop is designed to get you comfortable using the features of the software and begin to understand workflow. You learn the foundational skills in order to save time processing, so you can spend more time shooting. Bringing a laptop is optional but definitely welcome and encouraged.

Bedford School's Portrait Retouching workshop shows you how to make those drab portraits look like cover shots! The Bedford School of Imaging's "DSLR Video Basics" will give you the knowledge and skills necessary in capturing all of those memorable moments.

There are myriad of choices when it comes to enhancing your videos. This workshop will take your projects to the next level by using creative lighting and capturing clear quality sound. The class is size is limited to 6, so there will be plenty of hand-on experience.

Recording the video is just the first step. Understanding the standards of editing and how certain changes in video effects or sequence can change the feel of the project, and is key in telling your story. Properly applying techniques of sound editing and transitions will allow your video to flow smoothly from start to finish. This workshop is for you, if you are new to video editing or need to brush up on the basics. If you would like to participate hands-on, a laptop w/ Premiere Elements or Pro is required.

Bedford Camera offers annual photo extravaganza events! We gather local and nationally known speakers from across the country to bring you a diverse range of topics. Additionally, there is a trade show with manufacturer reps, camera clubs, live-model shoots, contests and more!
 
 
Take a walk with pro-photographers and tech reps to learn your camera and take some great photos. We’ll go to fun places like the parks, zoos, historical sites and more. Plus we’ll provide different types of photo gear for you to try!
 
BEDFORD SCHOOL OF IMAGING POLICIES
STUDENT CANCELLATIONS: If a student themselves cancels enrollment...
• 2 weeks or more prior to the first class, they will receive a full refund
• 1-2 weeks before the first class, they can either transfer to another class or can receive store credit to BCV
• less than 1 week before the first class, they can either transfer to another class or receive no refund.
No refunds or make-up classes are available for classes missed. 
CLASS CANCELLATIONS: Even though it is rare, occasionally a class may be canceled due to unforeseen causes by either Bedford Camera and Video (BCV) or its instructors. In event of a class cancellation, the participants can choose to receive a full refund or transferring to another scheduled class.
INCLEMENT WEATHER: In times of inclement weather, the instructor & manager of each store are responsible for either rescheduling or canceling the class, as well as informing their students via phone and/or email.
CLASS ENROLLMENT: Bedford Camera & Video and the instructor reserve the right to cancel class 24 hours before the first class session when the enrollment is less than 50% of the maximum number of students. Full store credit to BCV will be issued toward each student in that type of situation.
FIELD TRIPS: All participants are required to sign a liability release form prior to attending a BCV course that is not held on BCV property. Distribution of the forms and retrieval of the signed copies are each instructors responsibility.
TRANSPORTATION: All participants are responsible for transportation to and from all classes, workshops, field trips, and/or other events. 
In the event a class or workshop is cancelled, for any reason, the extent of Bedford Camera’s liability is the return of fees paid to us. All participants accept full responsibility for personal injury, loss of equipment, and/or damage of equipment. All participants are required to sign a waiver of responsibility and releasing Bedford Camera and Video (BCV), BCV employees, BCV instructors, and BCV representatives of liability. Payments for classes and workshops are acknowledgment of the terms and conditions outlined in the BCV’s school policies.
